Two open sheds were constructed to shelter the station using re-purposed wood trusses, steel windows, and brick from the former warehouses on the site. <image:caption>1500 Q Street combines historic preservation and affordable housing on a small infill site in downtown Sacramento. The historic corner market had been battered by fire and floods, its rear carriage house destroyed. In a public/ private partnership, the project rebuilt the historic market, and constructed new loft rowhouses where the carriage house had stood. Completed in 2001, the project was one of the first new loft buildings to be completed in Sacramento.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Broadway Storage is comprised of two distinct structures: A four-story self storage building with retail at the ground floor; and a five-story residential loft building, with retail along the street frontage at its ground floor. The buildings are designed to express their functions and orientations uniquely. The material palette provides distinction between the buildings, engaging the freeway along the storage building edge, while the brick and the concrete lofts building responds to the historic Broadway corridor. The mixed-use development is seen as a catalyst for the west end of the historic district.</image:caption>

<image:caption>1130 K Street was originally constructed in 1924 as the Weinstock & Lubin department store, a stylistic combination of Beaux Arts and Classical design elements. In recent years, the building has been converted to office use, sitting just one block from the California State Capitol. The proposed two-story addition to the structure seeks to invigorate the building with a simple modern form that steps back from the ornate facade while providing a contrast intended to highlight the original rich detailing of this historic resource.</image:caption>

<image:caption>1801 L Street - the first major housing project in central Sacramento in several decades- is comprised of 175 apartments (80 DUA) and street level restaurants & retail, designed to integrate into the historic patterns of Sacramento’s Midtown neighborhood. At its perimeter, the building responds differently to each street frontage; at its center the plan is organized around a large courtyard, built over an underground parking garage. The design solution breaks the building into multiple parts, and incorporates unique detailing for each part. Openings in the street facade allow portals for discovery into the courtyard beyond.</image:caption>
